Here is a Canadian Westinghouse portable radio. These used very large batteries which would still fit inside the cabinet. The cabinet covering is a patterned leather, with a leather strap carry handle. I picked this one up at an Ontario flea market back in 1990, and restored it to working condition in 1994, over a 16 hour period. Most of the work was to clean up the leather, (being a portable, it was quite dirty) and clean up the interior of a lot of insect remnants. There was some battery corrosion present which was also looked after. The original grill was a wire mesh with fibre flocking. The flocking was all but gone, so I installed a period-correct grille cloth. The interior had a bit of a mouldy smell–it was cleaned, then sealed up with clear urethane finish. All exterior tarnished screws were replaced with shiny new ones. The chassis itself was in good condition, and restoring it to operation posed no unusual problems. Finally, an external power supply was constructed in order to power this radio from the 120 volt AC line.
>>I always include a custom designed and made external power supply for any battery operated radio I receive for restoration.
