This $25 flea market find from 1990 was restored mid-2022. This was a 26 hour job start to finish.
The extra time was taken to re-stuff as many capacitors as I could to keep the original under-chassis cosmetics. I also took extra time in cleaning and polishing the chassis, and carefully stripping and refinishing the wooden cabinet.
This wasn’t a particularly difficult job as the radio was relatively clean, uncluttered underneath, and not butchered up by any previous servicemen.
Alignment was a bit tricky on the high short wave band. The oscillator trimmer capacitor had to be removed, cleaned up and loosened. Once this was done, adjustments to this were easy.
I also completely removed the power transformer, cleaned and re-painted, then replaced.
This is a very rich sounding radio, despite the simple single-ended audio output amplifier.
