Basic 78 RPM phonograph made by Sni-Dor Radio and Music Ltd., Deseronto, Ontario Canada likely late 1940’s.
As found, the motor was seized, the tone-arm paint was badly chipped, two tubes were missing, and the front speaker grille was missing. The cabinet was badly finished with a heavy coat of varnish. Turntable platter flocking was in good condition, although it had some stains which were permanent.
Fairly routine re-capping of the amplifier, and the motor assembly was completely unassembled, cleaned, lubricated and re-assembled.
Chassis and speaker were cleaned and polished up. The tone-arm was stripped of the old paint and re-painted with a tan hammer textured finish. Luckily the original Rochelle Salt cartridge was still in good strong condition, which is fairly unusual, so I was able to avoid rebuilding it.
A new speaker mounting board was constructed and new grill cloth glued on to it.
I completely stripped the old finish from the cabinet, made a few minor repairs, then sanded smooth. Applied new stain and spray clear-coat. Final touch was adding volume and tone decals adjacent to the controls on the top surface.
