Here is a Westinghouse Model H204 early AM-FM Table Radio, made in 1948. Popular with collectors due to it’s stylish art-deco cabinet design. The interior was quite clean and easy to restore, with no unusual challenges. The old selenium rectifier was replaced with a new-old-stock silicon type, with a higher series dropping resistor to compensate for the lower internal resistance of the new rectifier.
The cabinet, as seen, was badly damaged at the right rear side, with a piece completely missing. After repairing the crack internally with JB Weld epoxy, I clamped a custom barrier against the missing area into which epoxy was filled and left to cure. It was then sanded and shaped to approximate the contours of the cabinet adjacent to this area. The job wasn’t perfect, but after painting, I think the overall look was good if one didn’t look too closely! A new bottom label similar to the original was printed and glued to the underside.
This was a 19 hour project, much of it due to the difficult job to completely strip the old paint from the cabinet, and the epoxy repairs.
